Definition of Gear Dimensional Tolerance

The definition of gear size tolerance refers to the specification of the tolerance range for parameters such as gear mesh clearance, center distance, and tooth width during the manufacturing process of gears. Different gears have different tolerance ranges, and the size of the tolerance is generally specified by national standards.

Definition of Gear Dimensional Tolerance
The regulations on gear size tolerances in China are formulated by the National Technical Supervision Bureau in accordance with the national standard GB 514-1999. According to this standard, the center distance tolerance for gears is generally ± 0.05mm; The gear mesh clearance tolerance is generally+0.05mm~-0.10mm; The tolerance range for tooth width is generally ± 0.13mm.

Definition of Gear Dimensional Tolerance
There are generally two methods for measuring gear size tolerances. One method is to manually measure gear dimensions using measuring tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers, etc. This method cannot achieve measurement of tooth profile, and the measurement results may also be affected by human factors. Another method is to use automated measuring tools such as tooth profile measuring instruments to measure the size of gears. The advantage of this method is that it can accurately measure parameters such as tooth profile, and the measurement results are more stable and accurate.
4、 Summary
The dimensional tolerance between gears is difficult to avoid during the manufacturing process, but according to the national standard GB 514-1999, there are unified regulations on the tolerance range of "center distance", "meshing clearance" and "tooth width", which can effectively control the dimensional tolerance of gears. When measuring gear dimensions, manual or automated measuring tools can be selected.
