Gamma Knife is a non-invasive treatment system that combines stereotactic technology with focused radiotherapy. It destroys diseased tissue by focusing gamma rays precisely to achieve the effect similar to surgical resection.

Body gamma knife

Gamma knife has two types: head gamma knife and body gamma knife (whole body gamma knife). The side-mounted roller conveyor chain introduced in this paper is applied to the body gamma knife.

When the body gamma knife is used to remove diseased tissue in a certain part of the patient's body, the cobalt source needs to rotate around the target point in a conical surface, so that the radiation forms a "spiral scan" in normal tissue, thus reducing the risk of single dose superposition.

In the process of rotating the conical surface of the cobalt source, even a small error may cause harm to the patient's body. Therefore, the driving system of the gamma knife must adopt a precision mechanical design with no gap and low wear.

In China, the gamma knife drive system commonly used is motor + rack/gear box drive system or chain drive system.

The side roller is a steel roller without oil. This roller has good wear resistance and self-lubricating properties, which can reduce the wear of the chain during operation, avoid frequent maintenance, and thus reduce the frequency of workers' exposure to radiation.

At the time of operation, the chain is engaged with the sprocket through a small central roller and rolls on the track or support surface by means of side rollers. Thanks to the presence of the side rollers, the chain can maintain better straightness and smoothness during operation, while also reducing the noise generated.

The actual error of gamma knife usually needs to be controlled within ±0.3 mm, which reflects the corresponding drive system, and the precision level of the transmission system needs to reach the super precision level.

In order to make the precision of the production chain reach the use standard, it is necessary to have enough production technology and experience, but also need to have strict and delicate testing procedures.
