In modern manufacturing, the precise selection of process equipment directly determines production efficiency, processing quality, and cost control. The following are the essentials of selection strategies for key equipment.
1. Matching of Machine Tool Capabilities and Production Requirements
The processing size range and working accuracy of the selected machine tools must strictly match the part processing requirements.
The choice of production flexibility must be highly consistent with the production type (single piece, small batch, mass production). For mass production, priority should be given to high-efficiency special-purpose machine tools or flexible manufacturing cells; for multi-variety and small-batch production, the focus is on numerically controlled machine tools with strong versatility and convenient adjustment.
2. Universality and Efficiency of Fixtures
For single-piece and small-batch production, general-purpose fixtures (such as vices, dividing heads) or quick-assembly fixtures are preferred to shorten the preparation cycle.
For mass production, it is necessary to design and manufacture special fixtures for key processes to ensure stability and efficiency. The requirements for special tooling (detailed list) must be clearly planned, and design task orders must be issued.
3. Balancing Performance, Efficiency and Cost for Cutting Tools
Tool selection should focus on processing characteristics (size, shape), workpiece material properties, target accuracy, and surface roughness requirements.
Priority should be given to the maximum use of standard tools. When there are efficiency bottlenecks or special structural requirements, consideration can be given to high-efficiency composite tools or customized special tools, and systematic management of tool resources is required (detailed list of purchased/enterprise-standard tools).
4. Measuring Tools Based on Accuracy Requirements and Economies of Scale
The selection of measuring tools must first meet the accuracy requirements of process inspection.
For single-piece and small-batch production, general-purpose measuring tools (calipers, micrometers) are flexibly used; for mass production, special gauges, high-efficiency measuring instruments, and automated inspection tools are widely used to improve inspection speed and consistency.
5. Workstation Appliances
Scientific planning and application of customized workstation appliances (with clear detailed lists) to realize the fixed-position management of workpieces and tools, ensure smooth circulation, proper protection, and efficient access, which is an important support for lean production and 5S management.
The selection of process equipment is by no means an isolated act but a systematic project. It requires engineers to have a deep understanding of product characteristics, process requirements, and production rhythms, and pursue maximum efficiency and optimal cost under the premise of ensuring core processing quality. The precise, efficient, and suitable selection of equipment is a solid foundation for building strong manufacturing capabilities.
