We can divide the selection of steel for gearbox gears into the following categories to meet the usage needs under different working conditions:
1. Non essential gears:
For non essential gears in automobiles, tractors, and machine tools, due to their relatively small transmission loads, ordinary steel materials that have undergone quenching and tempering treatment, such as 45 steel, can be used. This type of gear has relatively low performance requirements, and quenching and tempering treatment can meet its basic usage needs while reducing costs.
2. Medium speed medium load gear:
For machine tool transmission gears with medium speed, medium load and certain impact, as well as high-speed and heavy-duty grinding wheel gears, it is recommended to use steel with high strength and good hardenability, such as 40Cr, 42SiMn, 35SiMn, 45MnB, etc. After tempering and surface quenching treatment, these steels can significantly improve the surface hardness and wear resistance of gears, meet the requirements of high load and high-speed operation, and ensure the transmission accuracy and stability of gears.
3. Low speed heavy-duty gears:
In heavy equipment such as lifting and transportation machinery, low-speed heavy-duty gears bear enormous loads and impacts. Therefore, alloy steels with high strength, high toughness, and good hardenability are usually used, such as 35CrMo, 42CrMo, 40CrMnMo, etc. These steels not only have excellent mechanical properties, but also maintain stable transmission performance under harsh working conditions, ensuring the reliability and service life of the gearbox.
